Why Trilogy

Lineage you can look up

Sean Wheeler founded the gym in January 2017 after thirty years on the mats, starting in kickboxing at seventeen and moving into the Progressive Fighting System under Paul Vunak. He trains in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor Marcel Louzado.

The coaching staff carries black belts under Fabio Santos and Alfredo Barum, plus decades of combined experience in wrestling, boxing and self-defense instruction for law enforcement and military. You can verify every name on this page.

A room without ego

Students are pushed toward their own potential, not measured against someone else's. Beginners roll with beginners. Nobody gets used as a crash test dummy on day one.

Six disciplines, one mat

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Jeet Kune Do, wrestling, boxing, yoga and our W.A.S.P. women's program. Train one or cross-train several without changing gyms.

Built for families

Parents train, kids train, sometimes both in the same evening. The reviews that mention feeling like family were not written by us.

Excellent for introducing kids to jiu-jitsu. The coaches are skilled, knowledgeable and patient. Easy to reach for East County families, and the owners offer a free week trial.

Orlando is patient but firm enough to keep the kids focused. He teaches real life lessons about bullying and how to defend yourself.

Before you come in

Questions people actually ask

Is the free week really free?

Yes. One full week of classes, no card, no contract and no obligation. If it is not the right fit you simply stop coming.

What should I wear to my first class?

Shorts without pockets or zippers, and a t-shirt or rash guard. You do not need a gi to start. Bring water and come with clean feet and short nails.

Do I need a gi?

Not for your first week. If you decide to keep training we will point you at the right size and style. No pressure to buy anything up front.

How young can kids start?

Our kids program takes children from around age five, with a separate kids and teens class for older students. If your child is younger than five, call us and we will tell you honestly whether they are ready.

Am I too out of shape to start?

No. Jiu-jitsu is how you get in shape, not something you do after. Beginners work with beginners and nobody is thrown in over their head.

Do you offer a military discount?

Yes. Active military discounts are available. Mention it when you come in.

Do I need to sign a contract?

Not to try us. The free week has no contract and no card. If you decide to join after that, we will go through the options with you in person.

Where do I park?

There is a free private lot directly in front of the gym on Camino Canada.

How much does membership cost?

Rates depend on the program and how often you train, and there is an active military discount. Call us at (619) 381-7210 and we will walk you through it. Most people use the free week first and talk about pricing after.
